Project HOPE

Overview

You do not have to fight cancer alone.  Project HOPE is an initiative started by Leisure Lawn and Landscaping to aid those who are suffering from cancer.  We want to take our passion of lawn care and help those that need it most.  We can help care for your lawn during your battle so that you don't have to worry about it.

What We Do

We take nominations, they can be self-nominations or nominations from loved ones, and we help as many of those people as we are able to.  To help those battling cancer and their caretakers, we can mow their lawns, cleanup landscaping, and help however else we can, all for FREE.  We will take are of your lawn for 1 season, starting in April and ending in November.  We do limit it to 1 season so we have the opportunity to help out another family the next year, however you may reapply after the 1 year if you still need aid.  Just fill out the nomination form on this page and we will review it.  We are a small company and can only help so many people, but know that even if you are not selected, you are in our thoughts always.

Why We Do It

June 11th, 2007 is a day I will never forget.  My new wife of 1 year and myself were enjoying our 1 year anniversary.  We spent the weekend at a bed and breakfast and did some sight seeing.  On our way back we pulled over for some lunch and to do some shopping.  While shopping, I got a phone call from my mother.  All she could say is, something is very wrong with your dad, you need to come home now.  Fast forward 2 days and we are sitting at the doctor's office as a family.  The doctor walks in and says what nobody ever wants to hear, "Chris (my dad) your white blood cells are extremely high.  There is only one thing that can cause this, cancer."  He was transferred to the Markey Cancer Center where doctors confirmed the diagnosis and informed us that he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia, which is extremely rare and fast acting.  My dad spent the next several months going through a brain surgery to address a hematoma, chemotherapy, and Leukapheresis.  He spent 3 months in the hospital, followed by 3 years of at home and outpatient care.  All the while, I watched as my mother lost her home, her car, had to argue daily with creditors, and went through the legal headaches involved.  I know first hand that the last thing on your mind as a cancer patient, spouse, or caretaker should be your lawn.  That is why I want to take that off of your plate so that you can focus more on what is most important, a full recovery and remission.  By the way, my father battled a very aggressive and rare cancer, and with the help of his family and doctors, has been in full remission for almost 10 years now, which is a miracle considering he was given a 5% chance to live past 3 years and would certainly not make it past 5.
